Small Groups

Grow in Community

Small groups gather in homes throughout Spokane, meeting at different times and days of the week. As part of a group, you'll pursue growth in Jesus as you gather around God’s word with others pursuing the same thing.

FAQs

What is a small group?

Most groups are made up of 14 people who gather weekly to discuss the previous weekend's sermon, pray, and for accountability as we seek to minister to one another. Each group has a trained leader and host. Most meetings last two hours.

When/where do groups meet?

Groups meet on various nights of the week in homes throughout the local area.

What about children?

Groups are for adults only. Of course, exceptions are made for newborns up to six months. We leave it up to each family to work out their own childcare. Sometimes it works best for families to share a sitter or swap childcare with another family whose group meets on a different night.

How long do groups last?

Each group season lasts 10–13 weeks. We have fall, winter, and spring seasons. At the end of each season, you’ll have the option of staying in the same group, trying a new group, or even taking a break. Groups don’t meet over the summer, mid-June through August.

How important are groups?

Groups are a priority at HAVEN. In groups, some of the most impactful ministry takes place as group members study God’s word while supporting and sharing life with one another. We believe that meeting together in a group on a regular basis is one of the best things you can do for your spiritual health .

Why weekly meetings?

Weekly meetings help your group gain (and sustain) the relational momentum that's so vital to building community around God's word. People need a community where they're known, loved, and cared for. This kind of meaningful relationship is built on regular and intentional interaction. We believe weekly meetings provide a good rhythm for that level of interaction.

What will we study?

Groups are based on the previous weekend’s sermon. To use the lecture-lab relationship as an illustration, think of the weekend sermon as a "lecture" on Christian living, and your small group as a "lab" where you get to roll up your sleeves and discuss how the sermon works in real life. Each week there will be a handful of questions on the sermon guide that you'll answer before your small group meeting. It usually takes 20–30 minutes per week to prepare for small group.

What does it cost?

Few things in life are free. And your involvement in a group is no exception! The cost of a group is the cost of commitment. At the end of each quarter, you have the choice of recommitting for another season, trying a new group, or taking a break from groups altogether.
